Two sisters, one in South Africa and one in Texas, started an ethical fashion company to help make fair fashion accessible for every woman. Their dream and vision was to help provide ethical pieces that can be staples in every woman's wardrobe. Their love for people and their value for human life is evident in the way they do business. Their company, Brookes Collective, wants to help change the world by empowering artisans in South Africa by linking consumers to these creators of ethical clothing pieces!
One of the many things I love about this company is how accessible their pieces are for women of any age. That's the great thing about classic basics - they are pieces that transcend trends and age. For example, a classic black skirt is, in my opinion, a staple wardrobe piece every woman should have. You can dress it up or down, wear it to a job interview or pair it with a hat, white tee and tennis shoes to have a more casual vibe. This skirt slips right on and is super comfortable too! You don't even have to fool with a zipper!
Brookes Collective helps women move toward a capsule wardrobe model (the idea that your wardrobe consists of a minimum number of essential items in your closet and you pair them in different ways to create endless looks, accenting them with seasonal pieces, as the weather changes etc.). Although I am nowhere near having a capsule wardrobe myself at this time, my goal is to move toward investing in quality basics that I can wear tons of different ways. This type of consumer mindset also makes your life easier because you have less to think about and comb through in your closet. And we can all agree that picking out clothes faster and easier is something to strive for, right?
As always, I am conscious of those of us striving for a budget-friendly, ethical wardrobe and thankfully so is Brookes Collective. A few budget-friendly highlights I want to mention are their black leggings (only $24), organic fair-trade white tee (only $16!) and these cute headbands (only $12!). They also have dressier tops, different style dresses and even a super cute jumpsuit!
As you peruse their website, you may notice that most of their items are basic, classic colors like black, white, gray and navy but they do have some pops of color like this teal top and this blush shift dress. Keep in mind that basic colors give you the opportunity to add a fun pop of color with your shoes, a scarf or jewelry!
I hope this post inspires you to look through your closet and find pieces that you can wear in new ways or pair with new quality basics to create endless looks for every occasion! Have you ever heard of a capsule wardrobe? What is a staple must-have in your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments below :)
