Happy Spring everyone! In several of my past blog and Instagram posts, I've mentioned my friend, Jordan, who has helped me immensely in this ethical and fair trade research journey. As a new mom who is nursing her precious baby boy, she was eager to find a company that made cute and ethical clothes for nursing mothers. She kindly agreed to write a guest post for my blog to share with all of the other nursing moms out there! So please welcome Jordan *drum roll*...
I love Easter! It’s my favorite holiday. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas just as much as the next Hallmark movie junkie, but there is something about Easter! The lillies, new growth, the smell of summer around the corner, coloring eggs, chocolate and more chocolate (see previous post about chocolate), and of course honoring and worshipping my Savior Jesus who is alive!!
This year, I have had a difficult time trying to go to church with my new baby boy. It’s hard. Nursing alone is tough but nursing in public is scary! Our church has a cry room for nursing but it has a window. Obviously, I am not a fan of revealing my entire midriff to all the elders and deacons and I hate hate hate hate the nursing camisoles. Did I mention I hate them?! My son decided covers weren’t going to work around month 3 so I avoided going anywhere that didn’t have a space to nurse or a comfy bathroom. Oh and then we moved to Denver, Colorado. It’s cold here people. Ever nursed in the snow? Yeah...
However, I really wanted to attend church for Easter Sunday in a dress! I know. I know. Most churches are casual now. As the David to my Jonathan, the peanut butter to my jelly, and the ethical to my clothing, Audrey and I LOVE dressing up for anything, especially church! Maybe we are old school or maybe we never outgrew the frills, lace, and twirls in the perfect dress but we love a good Sunday dress. Ok, back to my wish for an Easter dress.
Insert a wonderful ethical clothing line for nursing mamas called Latched Mama.
I first discovered it through a Pinterest advertisement and began researching! Melissa, a mama herself, started this clothing line as a small family company in Richmond, Virginia. They work with a factory in China that has top notch standards for fair wages and great working conditions for the employees. See the pictures of the factory below.
In addition to designing and creating the clothes ethically, Latched Mama is so affordable. Can I get a shout out stay-at-home mamas on a budget?! I was so excited to find them! The clothes do not scream, “I am breastfeeding!!”, well unless you get the shirt that says “Milk Maker.” They are cute and very durable. The fabric is thick and should last for babies to come.
I did have to hem the maxi dress but let’s be honest I am 4’11” and there’s not much I don’t have to hem. I left the wrap dress longer so I could bend over and squat comfortably. Latched Mama's mission is to support mamas and encourage breastfeeding comfortably. I can honestly say it has allowed me to do so much more without hiding in the car to nurse. And how about A NURSING HOODIE!! They have sports hoodies and dressier hoodies! I can declare no frostbite for me this winter thanks to Latched Mama!
The shirts are all long enough to wear with leggings. Each picture shows a model and her dimensions and the size she is wearing for reference. This helped me choose the correct size. They run large so I would size down but if you have questions email the sales department and they respond within a few hours. For an idea about prices, a t-shirt is $27 and the hoodie is $49. Most of these clothing items also double as maternity which is great meaning I can continue to wear them for pregnancies to come.
I also recommend signing up for emails as they do periodically have sales. Also, the new Spring line is being released this month! The shipping is fast (usually 3-5 days) and free for orders over $75. I hope you guys find this information useful or can pass it along to a breastfeeding mama you know. Maybe even surprise a friend with a nursing t-shirt to say, “Way to go mama! You feed that baby! I am proud of you!” Do you guys have any ethical maternity brands or ethical nursing clothing brands you love?
