Another company that has super cute, ethical clothing is Grace and Lace. Fans of the TV show, Shark Tank™, will recognize this company (owners Rick and Melissa Hinnant won the show in 2013) and maybe some American Ninja Warrior™ fans too (Rick just competed on this show recently). Although it would seem at first that their life is full of fame and glory, Rick and Melissa's story was actually born out of tragedy.
It all started when Melissa was pregnant with their first child. After going to a routine doctor visit for her pregnancy, Melissa found out she needed to be rushed into emergency surgery and would lose her baby girl within 24 hours if the doctors couldn't stop her labor. She was ordered to be on bedrest in the hospital and began crocheting a tiny baby blanket for her little girl. About two weeks later, she lost her little girl because the doctors could not stop her labor any longer. This tragedy fueled her desire to sew and make things with her hands and about a year later she made her first pair of lace leg warmers. So many people commented on wanting to buy her lace leg warmers that she eventually opened up an Etsy shop. After that, her and her husband went on Shark Tank™ and won and the rest is history!
As I researched their production line, I spoke with a lady named Debbie Spell who works with their wholesale department. She explained the following, "First, we do not full import our line. We have 4 US factories that we use. Recently released items such as our camo pullovers and joggers and the modal are made here in the USA. Unfortunately however, US factories have proven over and over they cannot handle our volume, so yes, many of our items are made overseas. ALL of our factories overseas are very well vetted. Melissa, along with her business mentor who has been in the industry for 30 years, make sure we only work with ENTE and WRAP certified factories. Her mentor has been working with these family owned factories and yarn mills for 30 years. In addition, a member from our team visits them once a year. In fact, Melissa heads there this year again. We do not work with any factories that are not fair-trade, fair-labor, and certified. They pay fair wages and treat their employees well. In addition, our India factories are giving our orphans and girls pulled out of the sex trade there jobs, work experience and are empowering them back into society." How awesome is that?!?
Grace and Lace just launched a super cute and functional work wear line! Their fall items are absolutely adorable as well! This lightweight cardigan is definitely one of my favorite falll items I've seen on their website! They also have a ton of great transition pieces on final sale for this unpredictable summer/fall weather we've been having.
Size and Fit info ---> Both Malayna and I agreed that most of the tops we ordered were bigger than we expected. I would suggest sizing down unless you are planning to tie them up like I did. Malayna said the pants were more of a true to size/tighter fit. There is sizing info and measurements on the website so be sure to look at those when ordering and keep in mind when Grace and Lace says oversized, they are not joking haha!
This Perfect Pocket Baseball Tee dress is the perfect comfortable tee shirt dress! I have been looking for an oversized comfy dress for awhile now and this one fits the bill. Like I mentioned before, when Grace and Lace says something is oversized they are serious! I think I should've actually sized down in this as it is super roomy! So be aware of this when ordering :)
Best tips to save ---> wait until they have a sale and always use code SHIP50 to get free shipping over $50 for all U.S. orders.
