In my opinion, thrifting is one of the most budget-conscious ways to live a fair fashion lifestyle. You would be amazed at how many great items you can find at your local or online thrift store!
With the overarching greed and rampant consumerism in the U.S., there are always tons of new and gently-used items that are landing in thrift stores every day! For those of us striving to be budget conscious (like me!), this is a great option. Plus, supporting secondhand shops also keeps textiles out of landfills. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “Landfills received 10.5 million tons of MSW [municipal solid waste] textiles in 2015.” Wow. That's appalling.
You can find lots of well-made secondhand staples for your wardrobe rather than support fast fashion by buying cheaply made items that will tear up quickly and then be tossed. I have found several great classic pieces while thrifting!
Now, to be quite frank with you....I'm not someone who loves spending hours looking through racks and racks at my local thrift store. Lots of people do and I think that's great! However, I personally love online shopping. It's so convenient and saves tons of time! Therefore, I've been enjoying thredUp which is an online thrift store where you have access to thousands of items from around the country. All you have to do is save your sizes and the website does the work for you. Just type in what you are searching for and it will show all of the options in your size!
You will be amazed at how much you can find! ThredUp has almost anything you can imagine!
So, next time you need to replace that worn out closet staple or you are wanting a statement shoe to go with that basic ensemble I encourage you check out a thrift store whether it be online or local. Let me know in the comments below some of your favorite thrift store finds!
