Instagram has connected me with some pretty amazing people and some pretty incredible companies. Several months ago, I came across a company called Trades of Hope through the Instagram account of Stephanie Taylor (who works for Trades of Hope as a Compassionate Entrepreneur).
She is a believer, cancer-survivor, wife and mom to two little girls! She summed up her company's mission in these words: "Trades of Hope is a fair-trade certified company that exists to empower women around the world out of extreme circumstances like poverty, slavery, sex-trafficking, discrimination and oppression."
Stephanie explained why she joined Trades of Hope. "After my battle with cancer, I found myself really wanting to do something that would not only help me pay off medical debt, but that would allow me to help others who were hurting in any way. I wanted to do something that I knew was making a difference!"
So let's talk about their products and how they help artisans! Stephanie explained, "Each product we carry is made by an artisan that is facing extreme hardships like poverty, bond-slavery, gender oppression, discrimination, etc. Some may have been rescued off the streets from drug addiction, prostitution or even sex-trafficking. Some have disabilities or illnesses that hinder them from getting a job. Some can’t afford to send their kids to school or feed them enough food and will relinquish them to an orphanage for what they hope will be a better life. That’s where each artisan group steps in and gives them an opportunity to work, provide for their families, receive healthcare, medical care, counseling - whatever is needed. Each artisan group is different in what they provide, but all provide dignified and sustainable work. We partner with the existing groups in 18 different countries (including USA) and market their products here in the States. The artisans are paid asking price (which is 3-6 times what they would normally make in their own country) and are paid before products are sold here. It’s important to know that we are not a charity organization. It’s not a hand-out. It’s a hand-up to provide them with the work they really want and need to survive and start a new life!"
Trades of Hope also holds different events throughout the year that focus on helping out specific causes. For example, this month all orders $50+ (before shipping and tax) will donate a piece of Trades of Hope jewelry to a mom here in the US that is coming out of domestic abuse. This is a great way to help her feel seen, loved and valued! Check out their beautiful products here!
Another way Trades of Hope helps out women is through their Mama Kits as explained below...
Without this kit or money, the moms are usually turned away to deliver the baby on their own, which as you can imagine results in complications, infections and often death.
As you can see, there are so many great causes this company is helping! I'd love for you to join me in being a part of this! My two favorite Trades of Hope products so far are their Venture Cap and Yasmine Necklace!
Thank you so much! It's wonderful to find and support others that are working hard to make a difference in people's lives around the world!
This is such a great post on Trades of Hope! Thanks for partnering with me to spread the word about our artisan partners, Audrey!!
