So glad you stopped by! I have always loved shopping and fashion and never gave a second thought as to how my choices were affecting others until...
I saw a documentary that changed my life. It is called The True Cost (check it out on Netflix!). It really opened my eyes to the abuse and slavery that is prevalent throughout the fashion industry due to fast fashion and greed.
Back in the day, there used to be two fashion seasons in the clothing retail industry. Now as this article explains, "the fashion industry is churning out 52 'micro-seasons' per year...the goal of fast fashion is for consumers to buy as many garments as possible, as quickly as possible." The documentary illustrates how the constant and high demand for cheap garments fuels the abuse of workers in third world countries where many garment factories are located. Many of the workers are not paid living wages and work in very unsafe conditions. (I couldn't believe how awful the Rana Plaza disaster was!)
After watching The True Cost, I was grieved that I had been ignorant about this issue for so long. I believe that every human is made in the image of God and is worthy of dignity, respect and love. I felt overwhelmed and thought how can I help stem the tide of this global issue? I began researching ethical fashion and accessory companies to try to find a way to live a more conscious and ethical lifestyle. So thank you for supporting me in my effort to bring awareness about this issue and illustrate how achievable and affordable it is to love people and love fashion.
